The Studio Numbers Challenge

Sunday, March 26, 2017

Morning, y'all!  Just popping in with our second March challenge from The Studio.  We'd like to see numbers, in any way, shape, or form, on your pages this go around.  I used my March "Oliver" Citrus Twist Kit and a few photos from a past family vacation for my take.
I started this page with a few yellow and orange, watercolor puddles on the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then used a stencil to rub numbers, with Broken China Distress Ink, vertically, down the right edge of the page, before splattering everything with the same watercolors used above, as well as teal and green watercolors and Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  My photos were matted with white cardstock; backed with squares of patterned print, framed with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching; and stacked, vertically, down the center of the page, just left of my stenciled numbers, over a kraft envelope, which I stuffed with some mementos from our trip.  The bottom left edge of that envelope houses my "wander TOGETHER" title, which was created from gold foil, chipboard Thickers and a teal, foam, glitter "wander" and grounded with a little journaling, which reads, July 26-29, 2010... Lake of the Ozarks... Osage Beach, Missouri.
The top photo was also backed with a bit of vellum for added interest and softening, as well as a cut-apart tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow.
The cluster in its top right corner includes a stamped, in Daffodil Delight ink, on white cardstock, and hand-cut sun, popped up with foam tape; stamped, in Melon Mambo and Garden Green inks, on white cardstock, punched blossom with hand-cut leaves and button center; gold foil, chipboard bird; chipboard, "Delight in the everyday moments" phrase; and a trio of cut-apart flowers.
I then topped each one of those previously stenciled numbers with foam, glitter numbers.  I adore the way these show gold glitter from the top and bright pink from the sides.  Too fun!  Each number was then used to record a detail from this trip, beginning with 5 decades of service from Tan-Tar-A Resort and 4 days of FUN...
to 3 hrs. from home, 2 happy kiddos...
and 1 Ozark Family Adventure for the bks.  A number of phrase stickers and stamped, in Jet Black ink, phrases complete each detail; and a few more of those stamped and buttoned blooms, as well as cut-apart flowers, complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Citrus Twist's March 26th Sunday SketchIt came in my kit, but I'll update with the graphic just as soon as it's made available on the blog.
You have until Sunday, April 9, 2017, to link up your takes, on this Numbers Challenge and/or our previous, March Half Patterned Paper Challenge, in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  Have an amazing week, friends!

Pretty Little Studio: Lovebirds

Thursday, March 23, 2017

Hey, y'all!  I'm up on the Pretty Little Studio blog today, sharing a little more of what Claudia van Rooijen's new With All My Heart Collection can do.  In sticking with its love theme, I used a few of my favorite photographs from my cousin, Chris, and his beautiful bride, Betsy's, wedding nearly five years ago now.  So, let's just get started.  Shall we?
I started this page by adding a few puddles of pink and aqua watercolors, allowing them to blend into one another, to the 12" x 12" watercolor paper, base page.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as a little yellow watercolor and Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  Once everything was dry, I used a doily stencil to add some texture, behind where my photos and embellishments would eventually lie, with modeling paste.  Once again, I allowed everything to dry before anchoring four circles, from Blooming Hearts' Metallic Clear Secret Garden paper, with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitches, over portions of those modeling paste doilies.  I then began building the design around the photos, which were all matted with white cardstock, beginning in the bottom right corner with the newlyweds themselves.  This photo was backed with both a square of our All I Need print, as well as the center of a Precious print, heart die cut, leftover from my last Pretty Little Studio project, anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitches.  A large Floral Bouquet Die Cut was tucked between the two...
and a couple of My Heart Cut Apart Flags ground the "lovebirds" title itself, which was created from a Lovebird Word Die Cut, popped up with foam tape.
Moving clockwise, I backed the next photo with a piece of our So Lucky print, anchored with more gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching, as well as a My Heart 3x4 Journaling Card.  It also had a Flutter Tab, which I used to record the April 21, 2012 date, stapled to its top right corner and a dainty Floral Bouquet Die Cut, popped up with foam tape, near its top left.
A Makes Me Smile Die Cut, embellished with a simple button, laced with white string, and a couple of Lovebird Word Die Cut phrases, popped up with foam tape...
turn our attention to the top photo of my grandfather, which was backed with a square of our Together print, once again, anchored with gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.  Its bottom left corner was embellished with a Sweetheart Shipping Tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, as well as a couple more Floral Bouquet Die Cuts.
Even more Floral Bouquet Die Cuts, along with an XOXO Flair Button, backed with a tangle of gold thread, dress up the top right corner.
I took the fourth and final photo to remember that my uncle officiated the wedding.  It was backed with both a folded strip of our Adore You Pink Vellum and a You & Me Bracket and dressed up with another Lovebird Word Die Cut phrase, popped up with foam tape...
and a Cherish Die Cut, stapled to the bottom right corner of the photograph, to complete the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Stuck?! Sketches' March 1st Challenge...
and Scrap Our Stash's March Tic Tac Toe Stash Challenge.  I used striped paper, gold, and flair for a tic tac toe vertically down the center of the board.
Thanks, once again, for humbling me with a visit!  Have a blessed weekend, friends!  Oh, and just in case you have some shopping to do, dive in!

Poppystamps: Share the Love

Tuesday, March 21, 2017

Morning, y'all!  I'm so excited to be up on the Poppystamps blog this morning, sharing a card, highlighting one of our new, Spring 2017 Release dies, Butterfly Trio, and Birch Press Design's gorgeous, Watercolor Wildflowers stamp set.  Enjoy!
I started this card by stamping the floral images, from the Watercolor Wildflowers stamp set, in layers of Tumbled Glass, Broken China, and Dusty Concord Distress Inks, as well as Squeezed Lemonade and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks, on watercolor paper.  Their stems were stamped in Peeled Paint Distress Inks, before everything was spritzed with a little water to blend and soften the colors.  Once it was dry, I splattered some of the same ink colors used above, along with Pure Black acrylic paint, across the background.  Everything was then sprayed with a Pearl mist, which I know isn't showing up in these photos, just for a little shimmer and shine.
The bottom center of the prepped piece was then stamped, in Jet Black ink, with the "share the love" sentiment, from our Be Mine Penguins stamp set, before framing it with both Elegant Eggplant cardstock and gold-threaded, straight, machine stitching.
It was then popped off the surface of the white, cardstock, card face with foam tape.  The Stitched Butterfly Trio was die-cut from vellum.  The larger two butterflies were layered one on top of the other; and all three were adhered, within the scene, just at their centers, in order to give their wings lift and studded with black pearls to complete the look.
Thanks so much for visiting!  Have a terrific Tuesday, friends!

TGIF!  We've just wrapped up another nine weeks of school and have only one more to go, before we call it quits for the summer.  So, we're having a little, Spring Break celebration in our neck of the woods; but before we delve too far into that, especially since a few of us are under the weather and not up to much partying, I'm honored to share a couple of February recognitions.  This page made the February Theme - Snow lineup over at Scrapbook Campus...
and this card was named one of Cupcake Inspirations' Challenge 393 Sweet Seven.  Thank you to all those who had a hand in such!  I'm truly honored!
And thank you, to all of you, once again, for just being YOU!  Have a wonderful weekend, friends!  Mwah!
